The Floating Pool Lady Barge – Barretto Point, NY (2008)

The Floating Pool Lady is the result of a philanthropic project in which a standard barge was converted into a seven lane swimming pool with complimentary bathhouses. This unique pool moves throughout New York City’s five boroughs to various underserved communities. Starting in the summer of 2008 the Floating Pool Lady will be located off the tip of Barretto Point Park in a community which has no other public pools. Once the Floating Pool Lady was anchored at Barretto Point Park, GBI built access to the pool by installing two metal gangplanks and landing platforms. GBI also ran electrical and sewer lines along the shore and onto the barge to make the pool fully functional.
